I can confirm that I had the same problem. Accessing

https://portal.mydomain.com:8443/

yields the same error (ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) in FF3.5. After 
digging deeper I saw the hint in the logs that chilli couldn't read my 
key and/or certificate, turned out to be a typo in my config file.

Seems like everything is working now matrixssl wise at least...
