[Chilli] Preproxy with coova

Hi. I've been using coova for several years now, and I can say that it does
a wonderful job when managing hotspots. Now I'm facing the following
scenario.
If a client has a proxy (it could be at a browser level or at a software
level), it can connect successfully and obtain an ip address but it doesn't
get redirected to the captive portal. Calling the portal itself doesn't
work either, the only way for the client to get redirected is to disable
the proxy.
I've been struggling with squid and tiny proxy, but to my understanding
these 2 only work when dealing with post authentication requests that take
place AFTER the client has successfully logged on.
I've been messing around with the up.sh script trying to get the most
popular proxy ports, but still no luck.
What is the correct way to deal with this scenario? how can I get coova to
redirect even if the port is let's say 31295?
I'm using coova 1.2.5 on fedora, mainly because I need to have the ability
to let clients with static ips connect to the hotspot. And according to the
forums, that feature is missing on the next coova releases.
Thank you
