Problem with coova-chilli and eth1 on debian etch AMD64

If you have "auto eth1 inet static" with all the entries (IP, mask, etc) in the /etc/network/interfaces file and if you do a networking restart, after stoping chilli, the IP will be there again if you look for it with ifconfig (at least with Coova-chilli 1.0.8 and 1.0.11 on Ubuntu Hardy Heron, i tested with).

Someone else mentioned this to me lately too. I didn't consider it a bug since chilli is usually given an interface not yet configured with an IP address. Which is a good policy to have since it will get complicated if that IP also has services (DHCP, DNS, etc) associated with it.
Reconfiguring or restoring an interface to its non-chilli status (perhaps including restarting dhcp/dns) sounds like a good job for the ipup and ipdown scripts.
